There seems to be a problem that several users report when they create an auto-surface on the front of a structure when there are polylines behind that face e.g adjacent walls. If breaklines are selected then the TIN surface will attempt to snap back to the polyline behind.
This can be avoided by putting polylines on different layers - then you can turn off polylines that are not needed / relevent to the surface being modeled.
Alternatively if you are an ImageMaster user you can use the CLIP function to isolate just the points and lines that you want to use for the auto-surface.
